Yellowstone Dutton Ranch was the largest ranch in the United States located in the Paradise Valley in Park County, Montana, east of Bozeman and west of Livingston. The ranch was originally owned by Kayce Dutton, his family has owned the land for seven generations and has been under constant threat by land developers, casino moguls, and the Broken Rock Reservation. The Duttons were the sole residents of the ranch along with the workers and hired hands who protected and improved the ranch. It had a satellite location called East Camp near Yellowstone National Park but was closed down in the mid 1990s.

As of the series finale, the Duttons sold the land to Thomas Rainwater and the Reservation for $1.25 per square acre, knowing they could cover the tax burden and had the same dream of preserving the land, while making it almost impossible for Fortune 500 companies to develop on that land. After acquisition, the reservation torn down the Dutton home and the stables but kept the headstones of the deceased family members where they were, knowing the Duttons protected the land and died for it. The Broken Rock Reservation declared the Valley as a protected land, citing that vehicles will be prohibited and can only traversed via foot or horse. Kayce retained 5000 acres of the ranch around the East Camp Location as a part of the deal to start his own ranch.
