Outline[]
Kayce searches for answers following a theft on the ranch, Jamie learns a shocking family secret, John issues a warning, and Beth takes matters into her own hands.
Summary[]
Some wranglers use dogs to herd cattle into a truck under the cover of night. As the commissioner of the Livestock Association, Kayce looks into the case. He finds the perpetrator at a sale barn in Billings, and goes to a trailer with his agents. They are shot at by the man inside, who is then killed by Kayce. He then sees a little girl inside the house by the dead man, who appears to be his daughter.
John asks Beth if she wants to marry Rip. She says she's waiting for him to propose. She should make the proposal, John advises, as Rip is too respectful to ask for John's permission first. After Rip returns from a trip, Beth proposes to him, and he accepts.
Wade Morrow and his son Clint walk into a diner where John is about to have breakfast. John subdues Clint when he attacks him from behind, and reveals that Duttons once employed Wade as a cowboy until he stole from them.
Receiving a copy of his birth certificate at the archives to get his appointment approved, Jamie learns that he is adopted. He confronts John, and blames him for lying to him his whole life. John responds with an angry ultimatum, then explains that Jaime was three months old when his biological father beat his biological mother to death with a showerhead, and the Duttons took him in as their own. He says Jaime can go find his biological father and choose who he calls father. Jaime is touched and calms down.
