The Montana Livestock Association is a Yellowstone organization keeping an eye on livestock conditions in Montana. There are several functions in the association.

- Livestock Agents with the MLA are sworn law enforcement officers, and have authority to carry out arrests, search properties with warrants, issue citations and conduct investigations relating to crimes pertaining to the livestock industry.
- The agency is headed by an appointed Commissioner, and its ranks and leadership are dominated by the wealthy Dutton family.
- Its headquarters are located in Bozeman as opposed to the state capital Helena, and it also operates a field office in Livingston.
- In the series, the agency is seen liaising with the Park County Sheriff's Office, Sweet Grass County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement Rangers with the Bureau of Land Management and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on the Milk River Montana-Alberta border.
- Staffing wise, in addition to the Commissioner the association has 6 full time Agents and 4 Reserve Agents.
- It is one of multiple law enforcement agencies in the series, alongside Broken Rock Confederated Tribes Police and the Montana State Police.

- Livestock Agents are primarily dressed in plainclothes, although some uniformity comes from jackets and shirts with the agency patch sewn on. Body armour with LIVESTOCK AGENT emblazoned on both sides in white is also worn in certain situations. Badges are silver in colour.
- The majority of agents carry either the Kimber Custom II or Glock 19 as their issued sidearm.
