Elizabeth 'Liz' Strafford is the fiancé of Jack Dutton and the daughter of rancher Bob Strafford.
At the end of the first season, she suffers a traumatic miscarriage.
In the second season, Liz experiences several traumatic events in quick succession during a harsh winter. First, she's attacked by a cougar followed shortly thereafter by a wolf that she finds eating all of the ranch's chickens. Suspecting that the wolf was rabid, Cara insists that Liz receive the rabies vaccine, having her held down to receive the first shot by force when she refuses. This proves to be too much for Liz who vows to return home to Boston with or without her husband. The wolf's subsequent attack on a nurse and Cara inside of the house all but confirm that it was rabid, making Cara right to be cautious. Liz subsequently agrees to take the rest of the shots willingly, if reluctantly, but still insists upon leaving before learning that she is once again pregnant.
She later takes part in the ranch's defense from Donald Whitfield's men. After learning that Jack was murdered, Liz decides to return to the city as she has nothing left to keep her at the ranch. However, she promises to keep in touch with Cara who encourages Liz to move on with her life and fall in love again.
