Lee Dutton was the oldest son of John and Evelyn Dutton, and John's Ranch Hand. Lee was born before his father inherited the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, therefore essentially building the ranch with his father.

Early Life[]
After a herd of cattle was taken from their ranch and kept on Broken Rock Reservation, Lee and several ranch employees, together with members of the Montana Livestock Association, set out to take back the cattle. Unbeknownst to Lee, his brother Kayce Dutton, was attempting to prevent him removing the cattle from the reservation. Lee was shot and mortally wounded by Robert Long, who was about to finish him off at point-blank range when Kayce intercepted and killed Robert. Lee died shortly after and was buried at the family grave site.[1]

As the oldest son, Lee was meant to take over the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch when his father eventually died. Unfortunately, Lee's untimely death put his siblings at odds with each other. A vision of Lee appears to Kayce during a vision quest. Still dressed in his Livestock Agent gear he asked Kayce to let him in to help him. Thought happy to see him Kayce decline as he needed to do it alone. After pleading again Lee's appearance changes to how he looked after he was shot. Yelling in a demonic voice and bleeding from the month and chest, screaming to let him in and look at his wound as this is his destiny. The horrible vision disappears as Kayce wakes up.
