Klaus was an immigrant from Germany who joined the caravan trekking from Fort Worth, Texas to Oregon.
Biography[]
Like most of the European immigrants, he came from Germany, and he didn't speak English. He was a musician back home but chose to flee to America for a better life. During the journey from Fort Worth to Oregon, at the Brazos River crossing, Shea ordered everyone to dump all the load from their wagons, knowing they would never make it across the river. Hauling various items, including a piano, Klaus protested the idea of leaving his stuff behind, knowing it was all he had. Shea then gave him an ultimatum, dump the load, return to Fort Worth, or he'll burn down the wagon. Klaus wept but agreed to abandon his piano and other instruments. In Wyoming, after reaching Fort Caspar, Shea made the decision to change course to Montana to bunker down for the winter so they can continue on in the spring, he and the rest of the caravan refused that decision and chose to carry on to Oregon. That decision cost many of the immigrants their lives, including his when bandits attacked them in Wyoming.
