Colby Mayfield is one of the ranch hands for Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. He was branded in Season Three.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Colby was originally from Birmingham, Alabama and had family in New Mexico. He began working as a hired hand at the Yellowstone sometime before Season 1.
Throughout the Series[]
He received the Brand in Season 3 after helping Rip and the other hands take out Wade Morrow and his son, Clint.
However, in Season 5, when he discovers Carter endangered by a horse he agitated while trying to fix up its stall, Colby heroically tries to protect Carter from the horse, but is fatally kicked in the ribs and skull by the horse before Carter stops it by shooting it dead with a double-barreled shotgun. Lloyd arrives to discovers Colby fatally injured, and once Carter explains what happened, Lloyd assures him he made the right choice killing the horse in self-defense, but has to call their allies at the 6666 Ranch to break the bad news of Colby's death to the ranch hands there, leaving many of them demoralized and heartbroken over Colby's untimely death.
