Summary[]
The Duttons are soon getting revenge on the militiamen who launched the multi-pronged assault against them and Yellowstone as Kayce, his livestock agents, Sheriff Haskell, his deputies, and other law enforcement hunt down and slaughter the remaining militiamen without mercy, with SWAT raiding hideouts, militiamen being shot dead before they even known they're in trouble, being ambushed, beaten, bloodied, and their bones broken brutally in unarmed attacks, and two militiamen have their pickup truck surrounded by Kayce, Haskell, and their men when they encounter a roadblock of their vehicles with their reds-and-blues blazing. When the militiamen attempt to surrender, one of them tries to go for his automatic weapon in the truck, but Kayce, Haskell, and their men shoot them dead, ripping them full of bullet holes until they drop to the pavement lifeless and bleeding profusely. By the time it is over, it is clear whatever threat the militiamen had was eliminated with the rest of them executed so they'll never threaten the Duttons or Yellowstone ever again, and no one can call on them for a hired hit anymore.
Jimmy is still struggling to come to terms with being sent away to Texas. John tells him that it is an opportunity, but Jimmy does not see it that way. Mia broke up with him because he is leaving, and Jimmy believes that this punishment has cost him the only person who has ever loved him. John disagrees, saying that if Mia truly loves him, she will be waiting for him when he returns. Jimmy leaves with Travis and his men, who resent Jimmy's presence during the ride, tolerating him reluctantly in the truck, while Jimmy and Mia share a last look as they drive away.
Emmett Walsh asks Kayce's help in dealing with his stubborn neighbor Ralph Peterson. Kayce gives him a visit, but Ralph is unwilling to cooperate, so Kayce places him in cuffs and traps him under the cattle guard.
John meets Thomas Rainwater and Mo in a remote location. Thomas reveals they've identified the person responsible for the attack on John's family, handing him a folder about a prisoner named Riggins. After Thomas leaves, Mo presents Checkers, who helped Riggins orchestrate the hit using the militia. When John asks about the person who ordered the attack, Checkers remains silent. John takes over custody of Checkers.
Beth takes Carter to shopping, which turns ugly when Carter ignores Beth's instructions and Beth gets angry and tries to force him. They eventually reconcile. On their way back to the ranch, Beth advises Carter on how to become rich using four different methods, including working hard.
Kayce delivers food to Monica and Tate in the bedroom. Tate is hiding under the bed, traumatized from an incident where he protected his mom. Kayce is frustrated that Monica hasn't taken Tate to see a doctor earlier. He finally convinces Tate to come out, comforting him with a bear hug. Kayce blames Monica for Tate's behavior, and she expresses her desire to leave the Yellowstone Ranch. Their emotions escalate, and Monica breaks down, asking Kayce to let her go. Despite their conflicts, Kayce responds with a hug.
In the pitch-dark, John stops his truck, loads his gun, and confronts Checkers. Checkers claims to have shot a man before. John challenges him to a shoot-out, and they exchange shots, with John emerging as the winner.
