Alexandra “Alex” Dutton is a former member of the British Royal Family who held the title of Countess of Sussex. in 1923 while on safari in Kenya with her Fiancée Prince Arthur of Connaught she met Spencer Dutton at a bar who had been hired to eliminate two bothersome Leopards. Alexandra takes a liking to Spencer due to his masculine traits and no fear care free attitude towards life. After learning from Spencer that he will going on another hunting expedition soon, Alex decides to run away with him rather than marry Arthur. Spencer and Alexandra are forced up a tree due to a elephant rolling their safari vehicle and the sound of the bullet that took out the elephant attracting a pride of hungry lions. Here Spencer gives her the nickname "Alex" mainly because he could not be bothered to call her her full name every time.
Alex falls in love with Spencer and later eloped. Alex and Spencer spent an additional three months living care free, meanwhile a stack of letters from when Spencer left for the war in 1917 was discovered by Alex and through persistence and a little liquor, she convinced Spencer to read them. As they got to the bottom they found the letter from Cara Dutton that was sent three months ago begging him to come home. Spencer and Alex immediately set out for Montana but were unable to leave port for another three weeks.
Marriage to Spencer and reaching Montana.
Alex and Spencer pay an old and rough tugboat captain Lucca who is going to Suez canal to take them also. The Captain in poor health takes the first night watch after they make it out of the harbour. After finishing the next watch Spencer once again trades with the Captain. Alex and Spencer are alerted to stalled engine of the boat and Spencer finds the dead Captain at the wheel with the engine resting on full reverse thrust the boat had drifted back to a large abandoned ship just near where they left the Mombasa harbour. Spencer is forced to make a May-Day call and attempt to restart the engine to avoid colliding with the ghost ship, Spencer is unable to avoid a collision and the ship capsizes the tug boat. Alex and Spencer spend the next while sitting on the upturned Hull of the tugboat avoiding sharks hoping that the ship that answered the distress call is coming. Alex and Spencer are rescued by the S.S Lambridge. it was here that they professed their love for each other and asked Captain Shipley to marry them.
Alex and Spencer are taken to Marseilles, France by the ship and continue their journey to Montana via London. it is here that they board the same ship as Prince Arthur and the other royals the H.M.S. Majestic. while they try to avoid contact it becomes inevitable as Alex runs in to her old trusted friend Jennifer. While dining, Alex makes a display of public affection which attracts the attention of Prince Arthur and his Father Prince Arthur among many guests. A drunken Arthur proceeded to accost the couple despite being warned off Spencer and is eventually punched in the face. Arthur then challenges Spencer to a duel despite is challenged to a duel but refuses but later accepts by force the duel. the Captain is alerted and Spencer and Arthur face off in a Sword fight. Arthur is bested by Spencer but draws a gun on Spencer with his back turned. Spencer throws Arthur overboard just as the Captain arrives. it is here that Spencer learns of Alexandra's fate of being in the Royal family. Arthur Snr orders Spencer taken to the brig and Alex to be locked in her room, when other people try to defend Spencer, Arthur Snr, threatens the Captain with the King and that he is a on His Majesty's Ship. A witness convinces the Captain to spare Spencer and he is taken to the next port via Dinghy without Alex. Alex has Jennifer break her out of her room to go after Spencer however he is already off the ship. she screams out that she will come find him in Montana.
